ABOUT HELLHOUND LEATHER
THE HELLHOUND WORKSHOP

Chapter I | The Standard
Gavin’s introductions to leathercraft didn’t start in a design studio; it started in the 1980's at the local Tandy Leather Shop in Salt Lake City when he was just nine years old, accompanying his stepfather, who was also a leather craftsman, to purchase materials.
Years later, in 2003, Gavin needed a holster for his first firearm, issued for armed security. Unable to find a well-fitting holster, and unwilling to settle for the mass-produced, corner cutting options on the market, he decided to build his own. That single project sparked his passion and began his journey into self-taught leathercraft. In the decades that followed, he found refuge at the workbench and honed his craft. He spent his nights quietly mastering the craft, building custom pieces for friends and family, and refusing to stop until a piece offered both flawless function and undeniable beauty.
Chapter II | Betting on Ourselves
By 2018, the long-haul trucking routes were keeping Gavin away from home, and the distance was taking a heavy toll on our family. Knowing the caliber of his work, I told him to park the truck and come home. We took a massive leap of faith and, in the quiet Utahn foothills of the Rocky Mountains, officially founded Hellhound Leather Co. that spring. Like that search for his first holster; when faced with something dissatisfying, Gavin decided to forge his own way, rely on himself, and now he follows his bliss.
It wasn't a fairy tale; building our brand took an immense amount of that Rocky Mountain grit, long nights and faith. In the beginning, Gavin was at the bench while I leaned on my background to run the business. As our reputation in the gun leather world exploded, our waitlist grew so long that I had to pick up the tools myself. Under Gavin’s master guidance, I learned the trade and joined him in crafting full-time just to keep up with the demand.
Chapter III | A Working Legacy
Today, Hellhound Leather Co. is a thriving, family-run workshop. While the demands of the business mean I rarely get to pick up a tool these days, our benches are far from empty. Under Gavin’s exacting standards, a new generation of artisans - including our children - are learning the traditions of our trade.
In the last few years, our craft has outgrown the four walls of our shop. With Hellhound Events, we now travel across the country, bringing the bespoke leather experience directly to clients through hands-on leathercraft workshops and custom hot-iron branding for corporate events, weddings and parties.
Whether we are fulfilling a bespoke gun rig for a patron, designing an exotic leather wallet, or hosting an onsite leather experience, our philosophy remains absolute:
___ . ___
We build with purpose, sourcing exclusively from the most respected tanneries. Every piece is handcrafted using traditional methods because when your family name is on the line, there are no corners to cut. Rooted in the rugged landscape of the Rocky Mountains, our work is a testament to the uncompromising spirit of the American West. We believe deeply in the value of what we create - both in Leather and Legacy.
